What You’ll Do:

• Feed animals and prepare special diets as needed, ensuring proper nutrition for each pet.

• Clean and maintain kennels, enclosures, and common areas to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.

As a nonprofit since 1991, Valley Oak SPCA’s mission is to provide affordable veterinary care, shelter, adoption services, and community education to eliminate the suffering of companion animals.

VOSPCA Vet Clinic began with only low-cost vaccinations and spay/neuter services. Today, we have become an Affordable Veterinary Clinic with full services capabilities. We primarily see felines and canines but have seen Rabbits in the past too. Currently, we have an Ultrasound Machine, Digital Dental X-Ray System, Proper Monitoring Equipment and a full IDEXX Lab station for all blood work needs.

We are searching for a veterinarian that wants to join our team serving clients and their pets in the central valley. We have a great demand for medical exams for new and existing clients, dental procedures, surgeries including but not limited to spays and neuters, enucleations, amputations, mass removals and our very popular vaccination clinic.

Valley Oak SPCA has been a No-Kill Rescue since 2016 and we regularly pull animals from local animal control facilities with high euthanasia rates. These municipal shelters look to us for help with their major medical cases. We also take owner-surrendered animals and strays.  We proudly adopt out over 1000 animals per year.  Many cats and dogs are waiting for their forever homes but must be spayed/neutered before they can go to their new home.

We also partner with the Visalia Feral Cat Coalition and perform many spays and neuters for feral cats. With the overpopulation of companion pets in our area, your job security is surely guaranteed. 

In the near future, our goals will be to relocate on our newly purchased 16.5 acres where our clinic and our Adoption Center will operate under one roof.  Our brand new digital x-ray machine system will also be be fully operational at the new location.

We perform a high volume of spay and neuter surgeries, along with wellness services, vaccinations, dentals, blood work, medical procedures, and other veterinary services.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Our Veterinary Assistants are an important part of our medical team and work closely with our veterinarians and other staff.

Duties may include:

• Assist veterinarians with examinations and medical procedures

• Obtain patient histories and prepare animals for examinations and treatment

• Restrain and handle dogs and cats safely and compassionately

• Assist with our vaccine clinics

• Administer vaccinations as directed

• Microchip animals

• Perform nail trims and anal gland expressions

• Draw blood and assist with laboratory testing and blood work

• Place IV catheters

• Prepare patients for surgery, including shaving and surgical scrubbing

• Assist veterinarians during spay/neuter and other surgical procedures

• Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and equipment

• Assist with dental procedures, including scaling and polishing

• Monitor and recover patients following anesthesia

• Recognize and report abnormal changes in patients to the veterinarian

• Assist with euthanasia procedures with compassion and professionalism

Veterinary Assistant – Surgery & Vaccine Clinic Focus (Non-Profit)

At Valley Oak SPCA Veterinary Clinic, we provide high-quality, high-volume, and affordable services including spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, exams, dental procedures, mass removals, and select specialty surgeries. We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and is confident supporting both vaccine clinics and surgical procedures.

Position Overview

This is a hands-on clinical role supporting both our high-volume vaccine clinic and surgical team. The ideal candidate is skilled, efficient, and confident in patient handling, with a strong foundation in veterinary assistant duties. This is not an entry-level position—we are looking for someone who can contribute meaningfully from day one.

Compensation: $17.50–$19.00 per hour, based on experience, skill level, and ability to perform required veterinary assistant duties independently. Working hours are Monday-Friday or Tuesday - Saturday. Day shift ( 7:30am to 4:30pm) and occasional evenings until 8:30pm.

Key Responsibilities

Vaccine Clinic & Outpatient Care
• Safely restrain dogs and cats for exams and treatments
• Administer vaccines and injectable treatments under veterinary direction
• Provide flea/tick prevention and deworming treatments
• Perform nail trims and other routine outpatient services
• Educate clients on vaccines, preventatives, and basic care protocols

Surgical Support
• Prepare patients for surgery (shaving, scrubbing, and surgical site prep)
• Assist with induction and monitor patients under anesthesia
• Support the veterinarian during surgical procedures
• Monitor and recover patients post-operatively
• Maintain accurate treatment and monitoring records

Clinical & General Support
• Assist veterinarians during exams and diagnostics
• Collect samples, draw blood, and place catheters
• Clean, maintain, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment

• Follow established clinic protocols and adapt to workflow needs

Requirements

• Minimum 1.5+ years of veterinary assistant experience (required)
• Hands-on experience with vaccines, animal restraint, and basic treatments
